Anatomy of a Run

Physical fitness is pretty important in FBR. It’s embarrassing, but inevitable, to be out hiked by a 4 foot 10 Karen girl, and she’s likely carrying a bag for you. Bridging the gap between my friends’ jungle-smarts and my city girl not-even-street-smarts is the goal of most of my exercise. Here’s the rundown of my jogging playlist:

Just You and Me (Zee Avi) – There’s no substitute for a song that mentions Kierkegaard in the first line. No better way to start out a run. I didn’t want to go running, but Zee has me off to a solid start.

I Saw Her Standing There (The Beatles) – This is good! I can totally keep this up for, like, another hour and a half.

Songs Like This (Carrie Underwood) – I’M THE GREATEST RUNNER IN THE WORLD! THIS SONG IS LIKE REDBULL!

Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Queen) through Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting (Elton John) – OK, my wings have worn off. I’m going to imagine I’m being chased by a tiger. That’s motivating.

Get Out Of London (The Pretenders) – I’m not actually being chased by a tiger. Why should I be running?

Pump It (The Black Eyed Peas) through Candy (Will Smith) – I own the wind. I OWN it!

Image

Girlfriend (Avril Lavigne) – ‘Every time you look away I know you think of me, la la la la la la la.’

Gee, Officer Krupke (Remixed with Salt-n-Pepa and Def Jef) – ‘If I keep moving…..maybe…..I’ll live……to see……a shower…..my grandkids…….and……another day…….’

One and Only (Adele) – Like Joe DiMaggio I’m flying toward home!
